Plan Review

The Cedarburg Fire Department has one Full-time Fire Inspector that conducts approximately 1,100 inspections per year in the City of Cedarburg and completes all plan reviews for fire protection systems. We also have one part-time Fire Inspector who conducts approximately 150 inspections each year in the Town of Cedarburg and assists with plan reviews. Plan Reviews:

The Fire Inspector reviews all building plans for any new construction, remodels, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and makes sure the proposed plans/buildings/renovations comply with the current applicable codes relating to fire protection features. Effective May 1, 2018, the State of Wisconsin uses the 2012 edition of NFPA 1, along with Chapter SPS 314 (Fire Prevention) of the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services, and the 2015 edition of the International Building Code (IBC), as the current codes.

All plans for Fire Protection systems should be sent to us prior to work starting on said system(s). If work is started on the system(s) prior to the plans being approved, a work stoppage order will be issued and in effect until the plan review is completed and given a conditional approval. Paperwork given to us for plan review should include three copies of the system plans to a 1/8″=1′ scale, hydraulic and voltage drop calculations, and all spec sheets relating to equipment included in the system.

The State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional services conducts all plan reviews for fire protection systems. The Cedarburg Fire Department’s plan review is not only for compliance with applicable building codes but also local requirements and ordinances.
