Courage cannot be solely defined by words, as it is the actions of the extraordinary that prove its existence. The generations of men and women who have passed through these doors, share an endless desire and passion to help those in need. Together, they have built a legacy delivering outstanding Fire and Emergency Medical Service to the Cedarburg community. Extablished in 1866, the Cedarburg Fire Department has created an everlasting foundation upon the dedication and commitment of its members. The continuous efforts of each member have defined Cedarburg's Fire Fighting Heritage. It is for these men and women the Generation's Memorial stands here today. 

In representation of the citizens who founded the department and shaped a basis of strength, pride, and devotion, stands the 1800's Fire Chief. Beside him stands the modern fire fighter who symbolizes the advancement of technology, and the continuous strive for improvement to better serve the community. Yet, as their appearance may have changed, the traditions they embrace remain the same. To ensure these traditions are carried on, the Chief and Fire Fighter join one another in leading a steady hand to guide a young child, the vision of the future. Forever standing together, they are the generations of the Cedarburg Fire Department
